Indulgence: Preview showcase

Our ambassadors had the opportunity to sit through a preview of INDULGENCE – the first show of TheatreWorks’ Main Season 2015! INDULGENCE is a performance piece conceptualised by Eng Kai Er and her collaborators (and friends), Bernice Lee and Jereh Leong, which will be held at 72-13 from 20-23 May 2015. Read on to find out more on what our Ambassador, Annabelle Lim, has to share on the upcoming show.

Indulgence

What would you indulge in if you were asked to perform whatever you would like to perform? What would you indulge in if you could simply just be yourselves and perform being yourself? Indulgence by Associate Artist Ng Kai Er, is a presentation of a new work with a no-holds-barred attitude. Performed alongside collaborators Bernice Lee and Jereh Leong, watch as they laugh, cry and indulge themselves into the interior architecture and wide open mental space of 72-13.

Indulgence is a site-specific performance art and I was invited by TheatreWorks to sit in the preview showcase of Indulgence, which was held at 72-13. Having never been to any kind of works-in-progress before, it was a rather interesting experience. The performance began at space 3 with a table set with chairs, and made its way around the space, utilising the windows, walls and poles the space had.

It then ended with a post-show discussion that introduced me to the creative process and how intensive and detailed it could be. The small group of us sat in a circle on beanbags, and shared with one another our personal observations and thoughts about the work. Interesting points were made and suggestions to the artists were given so that the final work could be improved upon.

I look forward to seeing the presentation of the final work. Indulgence is happening from 20th till 23rd May 2015 at 8pm at 72-13.
